At first sight Lee Da seems to be a painter of landscapes and animals. But in some of his paintings you see more. Typical urban buildings pop up like a menace on the horizon. Or you see a huge shadow reaching into the seemingly romantic landscape composition. For Lee Da the preservation and protection of the environment in rural China has become a central issue.

Lee Da was born in 1965 in Yincheng City, Shandong Province. He graduated from Normal University of Qufu City. Now he is an associate professor of the Normal University of Yincheng.
In 2008, he underwent further studies at Beijing Fine Art Academy to learn from famous Chinese artists like Bai Yuping and Ma Ling. In 2009 he rent a studio in Songzhuang Artist Village, and now he lives and works in Shangdong and Beijing.
Since the early 1990s he has practiced realistic oil painting technique and has participated in national and provincial exhibitions. He was awarded with several prizes and has held a solo exhibition at Beijing 798 Art District.
His paintings are focused on depicting the local landscape, customs and traditions from the shores of the Yellow River (his homeland). He sees the rural land with its people and animals threatened by a fast growing urbanization.
