In July 2007 we received from our Chinese agent a number of inexpensive but stunning art prints created by young talented artists who recently graduated from a Chinese art academy. One of these emerging young "baby boomer" artists is Hu Yuanyuan.
Hu Yuanyuan was born in 1984 in Wuhan city of Hubei province. In 2003, she began her printmaking studies at Hubei Art Academy, Printmaking Department. In 2006, she studied making silkscreens with Zhang Lian in Lithography studio.
The Golden Time Seriesdepicts Shanghai beauties from the early 1930s. At that time Shanghai was considered a kind of Eastern Paris - a city full of amusement places. Hu Yuanyuan puts the images of beauties from those days into the background and puts them into the framework of a modern, abstract design.
The series was created in 2007 in silkscreen technique. The edition size is 17.
