"These 36 views are presented in the Sosaku Hanga tradition: self-carved and hand printed, using Japanese tools, Japanese mulberry washi and traditional pigment colours. Each print is made from 4 to 6 blocks and printed in an edition of 25 copies."
"In this view the sea is calm inside the protected lee of the island. The moon shines across the water and onto the wet sand. Green Island is one of three islands off the East Coast of Australia that share the same name and there are many others on different coastlines around the world.
The island is actually a peninsula that is connected to the mainland by a low rocky crossing, open at low tide. Ocean currents carry large volumes of sand that may rest with the rocks at one time to be swept away another time. The peninsula forms a right angle in the middle of Cunjurong Beach, with Conjola Beach to the south and Manyana Beach to the north.
The prevailing wind and ocean swell can produce quite different water conditions on each beach. At the crossing there can be a contrast between the choppy waves running from one beach and the calm water of the other beach. At high tide the waves sometimes crash together at the crossing, running away from the island like a zipper, sending up a spectacular plume of spray.
The interplay of tide and sand and the ocean swell can make the island sometimes dangerous and remote. At other times it is within reach by an easy stroll across the rocks. It is not uncommon to see adventurous visitors caught out by the rising tide and being drenched on their return."
