Mr. Dong Jinfeng

Although Mr. Dong Jinfeng is still quite young, we see him as a classical "grand old" master of the reduction woodblock print typical for the works of the Yunnan Art School after ca. 1980. Earthen colors, mystical images rooted in the legends of the people of Yunnan and an expressive "brush stroke" - and last but not least very small editions!

The images on this page are link-sensitive and take you to other articles or web sites in which you might be interested.

17th National Print Exhibition of China

We have seen similar images made in the same technique of reduction woodblock prints by other artists before like Ma Li or Zhang Xiaochun. But they have become rare. We are more than glad to have found another artist of this class of great masters. Thanks Mr. Dong Jinfeng!

By the way, we at artelino have to share our enthusiams with many others. Dong Jinfeng is a well-established artist! Very well established! His reduction woodblock prints are in the collections of many Chinese and at least one Japanese art museum. And if you need a last proof: Take a look at the official catalog of the 17th National Print Exhibition of China from 2005 and you will find one of Dong Jinfeg's latest works on page 199.

Education and Training

Dong Jinfeng was born in Yuxi in Yunnan Province in 1966. He graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Yunnan Arts University in 1987. Currently (2007) he works as a vice professor of Fine Arts Department of Kunming University. Mr. Dong Jinfeng is a member of Chinese Fine Arts Artists Association, of Yunnan Fine Arts Artist Association and of Yunnan Printmaking Art Committee.

His technique is mainly reduction woodblock prints and favorite subjects are Yunnan ethnic groups in a somewhat surrealist style. His printmaking works have been shown at many important national and provincial exhibitions, obtained several prizes and were collected by several museums.
