In July 2007 we received from our Chinese agent a number of inexpensive but stunning art prints created by young talented artists who recently graduated from a Chinese art academy. One of these emerging young "baby boomer" artists is Dan Wenjie.
Dan Wenjie was born in 1986 in Jingzhou city of Hubei province. In 2003 she began her printmaking studies at Hubei Art Academy, Printmaking Department. In 2006 she began her studies of lithography with Li Qi.
This series shows us the old buildings of Shanghai and Wuhan city. They look more occidental than the traditional Chinese buildings. They were foreign concessions in these two cities. Veined and mottled walls, old telegraph poles, all shows a corrosion by time. Dan Wenjie chose a special point of view. She looks at these buildings and associates then with this period of the history of China.
The series is made in lithograph technique. The edition size is small with only 10 copies.
