Cai Li specializes in reduction wood block prints, using oil based colors on Chinese paper. The subjects vary. It is, however, not unusual that a natural theme is personified, which is the case in "Dancing in Autumn" and "Sound of the Wind."

In the first aforementioned print, farmers are working in the fields, sending dirt flying or dancing through the air. Their swift movements create large imposing clouds that linger in the background. In the second print lines, curves and swirls can be made out as the movement and its movement and therefore the sound.

Naturally one does not see the wind, but rather its effect as things move. In this image, there are abstracted flowers in the largely green painting. The other painting largely features dark oranges and reds, much like the earth.
