In January 2006 we at artelino held an art auction for art objects from Ubud in Bali, Indonesia. The artists represented were Mr. Pranoto, Ms. Kerry Pendergrast and Mr. Nyoman Wirdana. Each of them contributed with a specific style and technique - charcoal drawings, watercolors and oil paintings on canvas. But all works of art have one common bond: they reflect the light, the colors and beauty of the people and nature of Bali.
"Kerry Pendergrast was born in Perth, Western Australia in 1963, studied Humanities at Curtin University and after graduating in 1986, pursued a career in theatre and music.
A trip to Bali changed her fate, when she met her Indonesian artist husband, Pranoto. She moved to Ubud, Bali in 1993 and has two children.
It has been during her time in Ubud that she developed as an artist herself. She began to attend and organize model sessions, draws and paints models twice a week. The models and artists attending these sessions come from all over the world. Ubud has been a connecting place for artists for many years and the sense of community and support amongst artists (both Indonesian and from overseas) is always apparent and enhanced through the model sessions. This also creates an inspiring environment for Kerry as an artist, as well as managing Pranoto's Gallery with her husband, where they have hosted many exhibitions.
Kerry had her first exhibition at Seniwati Gallery (Art by Women) in 1998. She showed her assured line drawings and bright acrylic paintings. All the pieces were completed in the model sessions. She has since had several solo exhibitions in Indonesia and Australia, as well as many group shows. She has also developed a love for drawing in pastels, completing pieces outside in nature, beginning with a holiday to Lombok in 2001.
Kerry enjoys the experience of sitting in front of a scene, capturing the light and feeling an interaction that is immediate and fresh in her work. The medium of soft pastel on sandpaper creates a luxurious texture and enhances the colours of the pastels. The other aspect of her work continues in the model sessions, where she uses watercolour on paper. Here she is interested in exploring the richness of colour, transparency and the interaction of pigments. Her work reflects her love of life in Bali-the lushness of the countryside, and the delicate patterns and textiles of Indonesia that continue to fascinate her as an artist."

"Pranoto was born in a small village outside Solo, Central Java in 1952. He was driven to be an artist from an early age, so he moved to Ubud, Bali in 1974 to pursue his dream. He changed course from his background in batik to be a painter and nothing else. He was successful in his ambitions and has participated in solo and group exhibitions throughout Indonesia.
As an early arrival in Bali, he has been a support to many artists settling in Bali, also providing advice and guidance. Over the years he has collected his friends' work, which is what led to the establishment of Pranoto's Art Gallery in 1996. This has been a wonderful project, not only for the presentation of his collection, but for solo and group exhibitions, and the model sessions that take place twice a week at the gallery.
Pranoto has always enjoyed experimenting with different techniques and media, constantly adding new skills to his repertoire. The model sessions have provided a space to experiment and marked the most productive era of his artistic life. He has experimented with tinted plaster on ceramic, pastel on sandpaper and pastel paper, as well as oil paint on sandpaper, which provides a rich texture to work on and a dark ground. Currently he is working in charcoal on paper, which he has exhibited in Bali and Australia. These works are more like "painting with black and white" than they are drawings, as one artist commented.
Pranoto's work reflects his colour sensitivity and passion to capture the presentation of light, which creates a luminous glow to his figures."

The following resumé was taken in complete from Pranoto Art Gallery with friendly permission by Mr. Pranoto and his wife Kerry Pendergrast.
Nyoman Wirdana was born in North Bali, Indonesia in 1976. In 1996 he studied painting with the artist/teacher Retno Tri Joko in West Java for two years.
He returned to Bali in 1998 to study with the artist Sugito. Both of these teachers were students of the famous Indonesian artist, Dullah. They gave Nyoman a solid foundation in art; landscape, portrait and still life. He also studied with the artist Pranoto in Ubud, and has been drawing the model at Pranoto's Art Gallery for many years.
Nyoman has exhibited in group and solo shows in Bali, Java and France. Currently, he is exploring the subject of flowers in the medium of oil on canvas. He has found an original style in a textured technique, combined with a strong composition and color harmony.
