Charles William Bartlett, 1860-1940, is one of the Western shin hanga artists. The artist had undergone a solid academic training in Europe when he arrived in Japan in 1915. Shozaburo Watanabe published 21 prints after paintings by the artist. When Bartlett wanted to return to England via the U.S.A., he remained in Hawaii where he died in 1940. During his Hawaii years, the artist made a few more print designs for Watanabe. Bartlett prints are rather rare, as the blocks were destroyed or made unusable.

Cheng Guangyong is a leading young avant-garde printmaking artist of Yunnan School. He was born in Zhaotong in Yunnan Province in 1973 and graduated from Yunnan Art University in 1996. Currently (2007) he works as a lecturer at Zhaotong Teacher's College. Mr. Chang Guangyong is a member of Yunnan Artists Association. His works have won a number of prizes in national and provincial art exhibitions and have been collected by the Chinese Printmaking Museum. Cheng Guangyong has obtained the top prizes of "Literature and Arts Awards" three times by the Zhaotong Prefecture government.

Chen Kai was born in Fuyuan of Yunnnan province in 1971. In 1995 he graduated from the Fine Arts Department of Yunnan Art Institute. Currently (2007) he is a resident artist of Qujing Printmaking Institute and a managing director of Qujing Fine Arts Artists Association. The young artist is currently a national artist of grade three. And he is a member of Yunnan Fine Arts Artists Association.

Chen Li was born in February, 1981 in Qujing City, Yunnan Province. She graduated from Fine Arts Department of Qujing Teacher's College in printmaking major in July, 2005. Her print works had participated in Qujing fine arts exhibitions many times. Currently, she is working as a fine arts teacher in Yuanjiang Elementary School in Qujing City.

Chen Long began his studies in the Graphic Art Department of the Central Arts Institute of China in 1993. The artist is a member of the Chinese Printmaking Artists Association and of Bei Da Huang Artist Association. Chen Long exhibits regularly in all major Chinese art exhibitions. Outside China his works have been shown in Tokyo/Japan and at the International Prints Triennial Exhibition in Cracow, Poland of 1997.

Chen Wenjin was born in 1948 in Longkou City, Shandong Province. He is a well-established artist whose works have been shown in several of the national Chinese print shows and have received several outstanding awards. Currently he works at Sinkiang Art Academy with the rank of a first-class artist. Print works by Chen Wenjin have been shown abroad. He is represented by several galleries in China like Wan Fung Gallery in Hong Kong.

Chen Yuping, born 1947, had started a careeer as a hydraulic engineer, before he began as a professional artist and printmaker in the 1980s. He depicts the landscape of the "Great Northern Waste Land" in strong and vivid colors. His printworks have earned many awards at national collections and are in the posessions of China National Art Gallery. Two book compilations have been published with his artworks in Hong Kong and in Taiwan. Chen Yuping has had 4 solo exhibitions in Japan.

Chen YUQIANG  -  born 1938      His Works are in the British Museum

Chen Yuqiang was born in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. He had studied at the department of Chinese Art Academy, where he is now teaching as a professor. He is a member of the Chinese Artists Association and of the Chinese Printmakers Association. The preferred media of Chen Yuqiang is woodblock and silkscreen. Recently he started to combine both techniques. Works of the artist are in the British Museum, the Chinese Art Museum and the Chinese Print Museum. The artist wrote several publications on printmaking.

Mr.Chen Zhiqiang was born in 1980 in Dongchuan city of Guangdong province in China. In 2004, he graduated from Guangzhou Fine Art Academy, Printmaking Department. Currently he works as an art teacher at Zhanjiang Normal School, Fine Art Department.

Cheng Hsu was born in Yunan, China's most Southern Province with a great variety of minority peoples. In 1982 he graduated from the Department of Graphic Arts of Yunan Art College. Cheng Hsu developped in the early 1980s a revolutionary new method of making woodblock prints - the reduction woodblock print. Today the artist is severely ill and cannot create woodblock prints any longer. His works are therefore rare.
