Artist Li Yanpeng born 1958
Description This print created recently in 2004 by Li Yanpeng is an impressive document of the artist's mature mastership of the technique of the reduction woodblock print. The image is like a "play" with the effect of light and shadow and of textures within a balance of composition that is normally not found in prints, but in paintings of famous European 19th century landscape artists. The image reveals also an interesting aspect of the life of the population of the Loess Plateau. To protect themselves against the extreme hot temperatures in the summer and the freezing cold in the winter, many country people dug their homes like caves into hills. You see three entrances into such "hill-side" homes.
