Title Scenery at Tsurumaki
  pre-W.W.II - wood engraving
Artist Masao Maeda 1904-1974
Description "Tsurumaki Fukei" (Scenery at Tsurumaki). "Wood-engraving" (Koguchi-mokuhan in Japanese) uses the end-grain of hard wood instead of the side-grain. It can create very detailed, albeit rather small, designs. Not many artists use this difficult wood block printing method nowadays.
Signature Masao.
Dated 1928.
Medium/Technique Wood engraving.
Impression Very good ... (before World War II) printed on a thin Japanese paper.
Colors Black and White.
Condition Excellent - very good ... paper toning, margins slightly creased.
Note The most of wood-engraving prints use small amount of oil based ink on a thin paper for printing. The ink and the printing pressure are not applied much in order to reserve the minute details. The baren marks may not be obvious.
Width Item 7.9 inches = 20.0 cm
Height Item 5.5 inches = 14.0 cm
