Title Pine Beach of Miho
Artist Charles William Bartlett 1860-1940
Description "Miono-Matsubara". From "The Second Series; Japan" which included 6 prints depicting famous sceneries of Japan. "The First Series" featured various sites in India. He was very accomplished water colorist and preferred vivid, pastel colors. This design with the silhouette of Mt. Fuji in fine gradations and Ukiyo-e style clouds particularly shows the influence of Hiroshige.
Signature "Charles w. Bartlett" signed in brownish-red pencil on left bottom margin.
Seal Artist's seal (CWB) and round "C".
Dated 1916.
Publisher Watanabe.
Medium/Technique Woodblock print.
Impression Excellent - very good ... Printing in 1920s.
Colors Good ... Somewhat faded. Fine "bokashi".
Condition Very good ... Dark toning, three tears (1/2 inch long) professionally repaired on the margins, two brown spots on the upper area, margins slightly soiled.
Note Red Watanabe 6mm round seal (pre-Kanto Earthquake to 1924-26).
