Description An original preparatory watercolor painting of a farm house with thatched roof. The warm light from the house illuminates the dark trees and the mountains in the snow falling evening.
It was made for the trial proof before the first commercial edition.
It has been kept in the famous publisher in Kyoto, The Uchida, archives. An exceptional and rare item for the serious Japanese woodblock print collector.
Dated Ca. 1930 - 50s.
Publisher Uchida.
Medium/Technique Watercolor on paper.
Impression Watercolor and pencil on a thick paper.
Colors Very good.
Condition Excellent - Very good ... Slight foxing.
Note Uchida Han is an important Japanese publishing company with branches in both Tokyo and Kyoto. Founded in 1919, the company is still in existence today as an active publisher of shin-hanga in addition to publishing re-strikes of Edo period ukiyo-e prints.
