Artist Utamaro Kitagawa 1750-1806
Description "Komei Bijin Mitate Chushingura" (Famous Beauties; Chushingura Parodied) One of the set of 12 prints. Courtesan Kisegawa puts make-ups on a veranda while another is reading a letter. The scene was alluded to Act 7, Chushingura in which Okaru and villain Kudayu were spying Yuranosuke's letter.
Signature Utamaro hitsu.
Dated Ca. 1794-95.
Publisher Ohmi-ya.
Censor Kiwame
Impression Very good.
Colors Fair ... mostly faded.
Condition Fair ... dark toning, wear and soil, large thin area on the middle right, several pin size worm holes, a crease on the lower left.
