Description Kuchi-e for the romance novel, "Fuyo-mine". The item comes with the kuchi-e and the book.
Kuchi-e (frontispiece illustration) was made for the popular literary magazines largely aimed at the female readers in Meiji-Taisho era. They were published by newly established publishers such as Bungei Kurabu, Shunyodo and Suzando.
These publishing companies; among which Chuo-koronsha, Kodansha, Shinchosha still exist; published not only literary subjects but also many different everyday subjects such as cooking, sewing and hobbies as monthly publications.
Seal "Hanko" on the kuchi-e.
Dated 1897.
Publisher Shunyo-do.
Medium/Technique Woodblock print.
Impression Very good.
Colors Very good ... shomen-zuri pattern on the hair.
Condition Kuchi-e: good ... a center fold, binding holes on both sides of the center fold, lightly soiled around margins. Book: good ... binding thread removed, foxing and soil on some pages.
