| Title |
Light of Northwest No. 4 |
| Artist |
Xiao Fuping born 1985 |
| Description |
A seemingly classical portrait of a Tibetan. But in the background the silhouette of a modern train is to be seen. The image refers obviously to the recently finished train project connecting Beijing with the once forbidden Tibetan land. While the Chinese see this train project as economic and technical progress, most Tibetans regard it as one more step by China to ensure that Tibet is tightly integrated into the rest of China. The train project is also criticized for reasons of destroying the unique environment of the Tibetan highlands and for negative influences on the Tibetan culture. |
