Artist Jakuchu Ito 1715-1800
Description A cat, two birds and a dog seem to be happy with their positions. Jakuchu was famous for his very imaginative and decorative depiction of birds and flowers. He was said to have reared domestic fowls so that he could observe them. The artist signed himself as "Tobei-an" since he used to ask people for " One To of Rice" as the payment for his picture.
Seal Artist's seal.
Dated Original painting in Edo era. This re-cut woodblock print edition was made probably in 1900-1920.
Medium/Technique Woodblock print.
Impression Excellent - very good.
Colors Very good ... "Gofun" (white powder). Dark colored wash was applied to simulate antique look.
Condition Good ... Paper toned, creased and wrinkled. Slight foxing spots.
Width Item 7.7 inches = 19.5 cm
Height Item 12.0 inches = 30.5 cm
Note This print was hand-made by skillful artisans after a great original of a famous woodblock print. Sheets printed during the artist's lifetime are either very expensive or no longer available.
