Title Small Marmaids - Fossil # 3
  limited edition
Artist Ryusei Okamoto born 1949
Description From the series, "Kaseki" (Fossil), No.3. Ryusei was inspired by the beauty and the mystery of the fossil coelacanth, which he saw at the Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Earth Science. He noted, "...I was astonished by its noble beauty and the intricate colors... I imagined the fish was actually the vehicle for the fairies and the fairies dwelled on the deep sea bed millions of years ago. So, I drew a fairy with insect like wings along with the fossil fish. I wanted to express the feeling of the entrapped dream and the past memory in the fossil..." Today, his imaginative creation is in the collection of the Earth Science Museum next to the fossil coelacanth. In this design, the viewers can see the two small marmaids as if the fossil were the window to the world millions of years ago.
