Title Soga Brothers
Artist Hironobu Kinoshita active ca. 1851-72
Description "Soga Monogatari; Fuji no Susono" The scene of the final battle of Soga Brothers at the enemy camp at the foot of Mt. Fuji. Kabuki actors are in the roles of (from right) Goromaru (played by Onoe Tamizo II), Shogun Minamoto Yoritomo (Kataoka Gado II), his strong man Tadanobu (Mimasu Baisha), Soga Goro Tokimune (played by Arashi Rikaku II in butterfly design kimono), Nitta Shiro (Arashi Kichisaburo III) who kills Soga Juro Sukenari (Jitsukawa Enzaburo in chidori pattern kimono) during the battle, Hanzawa Rokuro (Kataoka Gato II) and Juro Sukenari's girl friend, Tora Gozen (Fujikawa Tomikichi III).
Signature Hironobu.
Dated 1860.
Medium/Technique Woodblock print.
Impression Excellent ... embossed.
Colors Excellent ... silver and gold colored metallic pigments, lacquer - shomenzuri.
Condition Excellent - very good ... slightly soiled, panels pasted together, folds along the seams, album backing.
