Description Illustration for the novel "Shiki Soku Ze-ku". The courtesan Jigoku Dayu and a skull. Rather rare over-sized kuchi-e from Bungei Kurabu magazine, Vol.9, No.6.
Kuchi-e (frontispiece illustration) was made for the popular literary magazines largely aimed at the female readers in Meiji-Taisho era. They were published by newly established publishers such as Bungei Kurabu, Shunyodo and Suzando. These publishing companies; among which Chuo-koronsha, Kodansha, Shinchosha still exist; published not only literary subjects but also many different everyday subjects such as cooking, sewing and hobbies as monthly publications.

Dated 1903.

Impression Excellent - Very good ... Embossed.
Colors Very good ... Shomen-zuri on the hair.
Condition Good... Lightly soiled. Light foxing. Lightly creased. A vertical and a horizontal folds.
