Series, "Takasago-zome Yoku-i Bijin Hyaku Shi" (One Hundred Beauties in Takasago-zome Light Kimono), No.1. Advertisement made for "Takasago-zome" dyeing process. TAKASAGO dyeing method was created by the order from IKEDA Terumasa, the lord of Himeji in Hyogo prefecture around 1596 - 1615. It was famous for the vivid dark blue colors which did not fade easily. Since it featured various patterns of pine needles and branches, the dyeing method got the name, "Takasago". This method had been popular until the early Showa period but largely forgotten nowadays. |
